In this episode, I'm taking you back to November 2019—when I was pregnant, exhausted, and racing against the clock to launch a funnel by the last Friday of the month. Spoiler: that Friday was Black Friday, and I had no idea what I was doing. But in that one week, I made $4,000 from a tiny email list and a simple low-ticket offer.

This story isn't just about making money during the busiest shopping season of the year. It's about the moment I realized I could sell the work of my brain instead of just my hands—and how that one accidental Black Friday opened my eyes to the power of leveraged offers, funnels, and making money even when you're not actively working.

If you're a service provider or coach who wants to scale without burning out, or if you think you've "missed the boat" on Black Friday because you didn't plan months ago—this episode is for you. I'm sharing exactly what I sold, how I sold it, and five strategies you can use right now to make Q4 your most profitable quarter yet.

What You'll Learn:

  • The full behind-the-scenes story of my first accidental Black Friday sale (and the $4K week that followed)

True story. I once completely forgot about Black Friday and I still made$4,000 that week. This is the story about the first Black Friday that I actually, the first Black Friday sale I actually ran by accident and how it literally opened up my mind to all the possibilities for myself and my business as a six figure service provider. Welcome to the Raising Your Business Podcast. I'm your host, Al Behan, founder of CEO Mom Academy, mom of Six and Lifelong Reading addict. This podcast is here to empower moms to run their businesses and lives like the powerhouse CEO. They are. I want you to believe that you can have the business success you desire. And be present with your family and to give you my best tips and strategies for how to make that happen. I'll be sharing the honest reality of balancing business and motherhood biz models that work for you. Marketing simplicity, and the mindset of A CEO, mom. Now let's dive in. So I don't know if I've told this story before. I'm sure I've mentioned it in different places, but I feel like there's definitely been parts of my story that I haven't mentioned as much or haven't really talked about so much I wanted to share this because. I'll never forget that feeling of realizing that I could sell the work of my brain instead of just my services. And if you're a service provider and you are looking to scale your business as a service provider, be able to have other streams of income that do not require you to be showing up and doing the work the whole time, which is fine, right? But if you are pregnant, which is what I was at the time, or if you are sick, or if your kids are sick, or if you have to take some time off, then you wanna be able to make money even when you're not actively doing work. And so I wanted to share this story and then we will go into how you can make a Q4 profitable, even if you're a little late to the party and have not yet planned or mapped out your Black Friday sale. So first of all, excuse my voice because I seem to have lost it. Like my daughter said my voice got lost. And I don't know what happened to me, but I don't think I've been talking too much, but maybe I have been this was November, 2019. I had a six figure service business, but I was starting to get really tired because I just found out that I was pregnant with my daughter, which I did not know at the time, but my first daughter. And I was just so exhausted and I knew that I'd been so busy building funnels for other people that there was no reason why I couldn't build something for myself. And so I had run a LinkedIn workshop, a live LinkedIn workshop that previous summer. It was$97 for a two hour workshop which included q and a and I sold all 20 spots that I wanted to sell. Then I also had some upsells on the backend for services from that workshop, and I was like, you know what? I'm gonna turn that workshop into a low ticket product. And I'm gonna turn into an SLO funnel.'cause at the time, the front end low ticket funnels were just starting to become a more popular thing. Instead of having a freebie to a low ticket offer, like a trip wire. There were like, people were like, oh wow, we could just send people directly to the low ticket offer. This was a very new thing at the time, and so I decided I was gonna build a funnel for my LinkedIn workshop, and I wanted to just set up something that could make me money without having to show up all the time. And I set a deadline for the end of November. This was, what I didn't realize was also right after my sister's wedding. My youngest sister got married a couple, like a week or two before that. And I was like, that's it. By the end of November I'm going to be launching this funnel and I. Built the funnel and I wrote the, did, wrote the sales page, and I created the order bump. And I created the upsell and I actually had a lot of the upsell, like stuff in place already. Like I had a lot of this already. I actually, I think the upsell was my VIP client formula and it was literally like how I make my clients feel like VIPs, the onboarding process and the cer and the delivery process, everything that I do to turn clients into, retained clients. I kept clients for quite a long time. At the time. And so people are always wanting know, like, how do you do that? And I walk'em through my onboarding methods and my delivery methods and all that kinda stuff. It was really good. So it was basically how to generate leads on LinkedIn. And then the order bump, I think was a, was LinkedIn prospecting templates. Messages to send on LinkedIn to prospect for your services. And then the upsell was the VIP client formula, which in hindsight was not the best. It was not the absolute best like most aligned upsell. Now knowing what I do about funnels this was, again, this was six years ago, so I've learned a lot since then, but it was pretty good. And then I was busy, I was tired, I was nauseous. We were having a family wedding and I was like, I'm gonna get this out. By the end of November, the last Friday, November, I think it was like November 29th, I'm like, I'm gonna get it out the door. And I remember like on Friday, like desperate, there was something that was not working. There was like a little tech thing that was happening inside of ClickFunnels and it was driving me crazy. And I had an email that was supposed to go out sending people to this LinkedIn low ticket offer, which was called LinkedIn Leads Magic or something like that. I dunno. And I, oh, LinkedIn leads mastery. And I'd been sending out like warming up emails and here's why you need LinkedIn and this is so important. And all of a sudden and all of a sudden I'm sitting there like trying to fix this little black, this little, this Black Friday. And I was sitting there trying to fix this little tech thing. And my friend Ashley was so sweet. She came in, she was like, oh, let me, let me help you because you have to go offline soon for Shabbat. And I was like, I know. And she she helped me sort it out and I scheduled my email to go out and I. I looked, all of a sudden I looked at my inbox and all of a sudden I'm seeing email after email. Black Friday sale, and I was like, oh gosh. I decided to launch this funnel at the busiest time of the year. There is no way that I am going to. There's no way that I'm gonna make any money from this because no one's gonna pay. Why would anyone pay attention to me? Who even sees your Black Friday offer if you'd never sold a Black Friday offer before? If you don't have a big audience, unless you're like Amazon or Apple or some sort of really like experienced long-term business owner with a huge audience and a huge email list, which I did not have, but I was like, you know what? I said I was gonna launch it by this Friday. I'm launching it by this Friday. I don't care what happens. The important thing is I get it out the door. And I decided to offer a bonus, which was going to be a Get It Clients bootcamp. It was a five week bootcamp that with daily actions every day to. Bringing clients. And it really aligned. It did that, did align, this bonus, did align with the, with this funnel because it was about, it was about generating leads of LinkedIn to get service clients and it was about serving your service clients. And I was like, if you're looking to generate leads, they're obviously, they want more clients. And so I can help them put together a whole bunch of, daily small actions that compound over time to bring more clients in the door. And I said, I'm gonna launch this by itself at 4 97, which I did later on. But you can get it for free when you join, when you buy my LinkedIn Leads Mastery and I launched it anyway that week. From Friday till the next Friday, I made$4,000 in cash that week from just one little funnel. No huge campaign. I sent a few warmup emails, then some daily emails throughout the sale. No big webinar or anything complicated. No big audience. My email list was like, I don't know, maybe 300 people at the time, maybe. I did post about it on Facebook. A lot of my, a lot of my, a lot of my sales came from Facebook and that was my first experience at a Black Friday sale. And that was when I realized, like I, I'll never forget, finishing up Shabbat and I turned my phone back on and all of a sudden I see just like stripe notifications, stripe notification, and I'm just seeing just AF one after the other.$37,$64 a hundred and whatever dollars like'cause, because they bought the upsell and I was like, oh my goodness. I'm like, I can do this. I can sell information, I can sell the work of my brain, my experience. I do not need to sell the work of my hands. And this was so exciting for me, and that was what really opened up my mind to the possibility of having funnels as a service provider, of having leveraged offers altogether of, believing that I had, that I did not only have to sell the work of my hands, which was a big gap. And I was, I've spoken about that in a previous episode. I'll drop below, but I just want you to realize, that even if you are not like crazy prepared. Q4 can still be your most profitable quarter. Q4 is built for buying. Okay? People are psychologically and seasonally primed to spend.'Cause number one, there is this holiday shopping mindset, right? People feel that deals are normal and expected. They're like they, they actually wait. Like I've, there are people that I wait for the whole year for their Black Friday sale to renew my membership and something, or to buy their thing. I'm like, I know they're gonna do a Black Friday sale soon. I'm gonna just wait till then. People are primed to buy during this time, and they're also thinking about the holidays. When it comes to business owners, if you are a B2B, they are in end of year planning and they want to invest before the year ends. Maybe they want to, for tax purposes, get a little more money off their taxes, right? Or they just want to make sure that they're locked in for the upcoming year. This is, I heard someone say this is decision season. This is definitely decision season for people and. From the perspective of someone who is B2B and someone who is a client, this is a very, this is often a time where people test out coaches or programs now to commit in Q1. So if your audience is moms or people who are buying gifts for other people or business owners or coaches, this is their reset season, they are getting serious and they're watching you. Even if you haven't sold anything yet, they're still watching you. They wanna see you show up. They wanna see that you are relevant to them, and. I personally have checked out people by buying their Black Friday offers and been like, oh, wow. I love this. I love them. I love the way they teach. And then invested in a year of work of coaching with them within like a month or so. Let's ditch that idea that if you haven't planned your Black Friday, in September, you are screwed. Because remember, I was convinced that nobody was gonna buy, the industry was too loud. My funnel was gonna be too small. My audience was too small. But the people who bought because of me, because they trusted me, my voice, my perspective, my solution. So I just want you to realize there are people who want to hear your take. They trust you. Don't withhold your offer just because it's getting closer to Black Friday. There's still a bunch of things that you absolutely can do, and I'm gonna share some strategies and some ideas with you to make sure that you can make the most of the Black Friday season without having to, sit, stay up all night, writing emails and doing all kinds of crazy stuff, because if you are showing up now and you are showing up consistently with content, you're emailing your list, you are showing up as an authority, sharing your story, sharing your perspective. You can sell to people. You are a business. You're in the business of making money you can sell and you can even sell now. So let's talk about a few different ways to maximize your Black Friday. Things you can sell on Black Friday without having to do anything super crazy and insane and have a whole complicated campaign because I know that people have gotten really into this five days of deals thing. I know Jana Bottom Carter had this, her Black Friday in a, in a box or whatever, and it was like this five days of deals, which works really well for people. Last year I saw a lot of people did it, and so I'm wondering if there might be a little bit of fatigue about it. But that being said, you do not need to do a complicated five days of deals campaign with full of chat GPT emails in order to make money over Black Friday. And in fact, you can use your Black Friday to bring in more leads for your higher ticket and more premium services and offers. So let's talk about exactly how, and I'll also be sharing what I'll be selling for a Black Friday and giving you a little heads up. You can get on the wait list and grab it at the lowest price it is ever going to be. So here are some things you can do right now to start putting in motion that you can sell for Black Friday. Or even honestly, like even now I'm gonna be putting out my Black Friday in quotes offer starting next week. And it's gonna be running until the end of November and I'm gonna be delivering it beginning of December. I'll share more about that in a minute. So the first idea is a flash wait list offer. So this is like a very exclusive access sort of strategy. And this is predicated on you're already selling something, you've already sold something in the past, people know it, and you're selling it in a new format.? This could be like a shorter term thing or a limited access, a mini version of what you're already doing. I highly recommend you ga gate it with a wait list. So you can kinda just get people on the wait list to get first dibs and that kinda creates a feeling of urgency and exclusivity without a lot of extra tech because it's literally just one more form. And and it creates that like excitement and ooh, if you're lucky, you get to be part of this secret club. So what I mean by something you're already selling in a new format. So if you normally sell a six month one-to-ones offering a two week intensive. It's a short, punchy offer. It's pretty easy. Yes. And it gives people who are considering your six month one-to-one a chance to try you out. And that's why I really like this.'cause it gives your potential clients a good little taste of whatever it is working with you, it gives people a chance to really just experience working with you, but in a small form. That really just gives'em a sense to kinda try before they buy. I know I've never really put money down for someone who I've never tried out in some capacity. I've either bought like a masterclass or a, a Voxer day or just a way to see do I even vibe with this person? Do I like the way they coach? Or I like these kind of strategies they suggest to me. Do I, do we vibe like values wise and mindset wise? So that has always been the case for me. And I know it's been the case for many other people because again, in this kind of trust recession there's just still been a lot of lack of trust. Happening. A lot of people have been just not really believing that people are gonna deliver on what they said they were gonna deliver. And so this is a great opportunity for people to really get a chance to know you like in the exact container which you sell, right? So instead of being like, oh, I'm selling my one to one, I'm gonna do a master class, being like, no, you just get some one-to-one with me. But just a really short little fun slice of it. That is the first idea. And honestly, I would suggest doing some sort of wait list thing anyway just to I have a smaller sort of pool in which to launch too. My client, Catherine did this for her for her course launch, and it did really well. People got on the wait list, she got people jumped on right away because there were some, first to buy bonuses and it was awesome. Hey, CEO Moms. Quick question. Are you tired of business advice that assumes you have a nanny, a full-time team, and zero kids climbing on your head? Yeah, same. That is why I created the CEO Mom diaries, a totally free telegram channel where I'm sharing the real behind the scenes of building my monthly recurring revenue, scaling with limited time and marketing that actually works for moms. Even if you have six kids like me, it's bite-sized strategy, voice notes, straight from the trenches, and many trainings you can binge during school pickup. If you are building a business that works with your life and not against it, this channel's for you, head to l bend to hand.com/diaries to join for free. That's el bend to hand.com/diaries and I'll see you inside. The second idea is highlighting the sexiest part of your signature offer. And this is not required to create anything new, All you need to do is pull out one juicy piece and sell it as a front end teaser. And this acts like bait because the people who buy this are ideal clients for the full offer. So if you're a service provider, it could be your content calendar, it could be your onboarding template, if it could be your copywriting review framework, whatever people love inside your program. So here's an example. My mom bible marketing method. My or the mom bible marketing method, I think. Yeah, it, that was the sort of like just the content planning piece of my CEO Mom Academy program. And then I had the content module as the upsell. So I was like, normally you can get, normally the content module is X and you can get it for y. I pulled it out as this is one module. People absolutely loved. The two modules people loved the most were, there were actually a few, but the two that really landed then were the content and the messaging module, which kind of were. Brother sister offers because you need the messaging in order to create good content, and then you need the content in order to actually make money. Because, messaging is not gonna do anything if you just sit there and not use it. So I, what I basically did was I basically said, here's my mom bible marketing method. Then the upsell was, get my full content. You each want to actually create the content because I teach you how to plan the content in, in 30 minutes a week or even like an hour and a half a month. But then once you've plan the content, now you have to actually have to create it. And that's what I help you do in the content module. And then I offer them a special deal on the CEO Mom Academy program. And the reason why they get a special deal is'cause they've already paid me X amount for the other two things. So I I mentally subtract those things from the full price, like from like I'd say from the launch price of CEO Mom Academy. And I'm like, okay, now you can join for this very special offer that you'll not see anywhere else. And I actually had a couple people upgrade to my CEO Mom Academy program last Black Friday. I had my content to cash bundle that I offered as part of my deals, and the backend was CEOM Academy and they went for it. Again, you do not need to, if you already have a program or an offer or whatever, like pulling out just one piece of it and selling it on its own, really, what's the appetite for the rest of it? So it's kinda like the same idea as the exclusive access. But it's a little bit different'cause you're pulling out like some piece of content or something. It's not like just the access piece and for example, I just wanna say like for the exclusive access, I'm currently offering a six month option for my CEO mom mastermind. Until now, it's only ever been 12 months and now I'm offering it for six months. So this is a really great opportunity to reach out to everybody who has checked out the Mastermind before maybe 12 months, felt like too long, and be like, Hey, if you wanna join for six months, I'm offering, five spots at six months, or 10 spots at six months or whatever. And see how that goes. Adding value to what you're already selling. So whatever you're selling, anything, four Black Friday or any time honestly you wanna stack your sales, Add an order bump, add an upsell. I cannot even begin to tell you like this can make you so much more money. So much more money. Alright? Because people are already attracted to, if people are attracted to the front end offer, creating the next level step makes so much sense for you. Give'em an opportunity to buy the next thing. And even if you're not giving them the opportunity to buy like the next thing, like right away, even if they don't actually buy the next thing right away, Even if they don't buy the next thing right away, then. At least. At the very least, they have. Some level of exposure to that offer, and now they know that it exists. And then later when you sell it again, they'll be like, oh yeah, I saw that I didn't buy it. I should have bought it, but maybe I'll buy it now. So either way you can't lose by adding exposure to your other offers. So my mom viable marketing method pairs perfectly with my standout and sell course because that teaches you how to create a signature framework that turns into your content pillars and vice versa. I have the Mom Viable Marketing Method as the order bump for my standout and sell course. They're both about between 37 and$47. So they get access to the other thing as the order bump. When they buy, because it pairs so well together. Like you, you really, like if you have one and the other, like it's just the best marriage. You wanna think about what would naturally come next for someone who buys and what would make their experience even better or deeper and more awesome and. I talk about this in my Lazy Money Masterclass, which I will I will link below as well because it is such a good, it's such a good masterclass. It's so good. And it it really shows you exactly how to create funnels in a way that just sets people up for buying now and buying long term. And I've had feedback on this masterclass, like people have said, wow, I've literally never thought about, i've literally never thought about building funnels the way you present it. It makes so much sense. I like and these are people who are. Experienced business owners who have built funnels before, who have been part of funnels before. Like they, they've done this before. So if I do say so myself, it's a really value packed masterclass, which I honestly like, it should probably cost more, but currently it's$55. So grab it now before I raise it.'cause I feel like it's more of like a 1 97. Type situation. So that is the next thing, adding value to what you're already selling. Stack your offer with opportunities to buy other things as well. Like, why the heck not literally, why the heck not? If someone's already buying from you, give'em a chance to buy more, right? It's like the ultimate would you like fries with that? They're already there. Offer them something else. The fourth idea for what to sell for Black Friday is to create a lead gen offer for Q1. So if you know what you're gonna be selling in January, build some sort of low ticket, high conversion offer that will set the stage. So this could be a paid workshop that is showing your framework. It could be a case study piece of content or case study masterclass or A-A-P-D-F. It could be a q and a session or some sort of prep guide. Maybe a couple hours of your work to knock off if you're a service provider to knock one specific thing off their plate, right? Whatever, you know you're gonna be selling in January. This is the time to set the stage and bring in leads for that offer. So I'm giving you the heads up. This is what I'm currently doing. I am gonna be it's not just January. I'm also I'm offering in December, I'm offering a special six month pass to my CEO Mom Mastermind. But just heads up, if you have been interested in the Mastermind until now, this is the time to join because when you join November, you get two bonus months and you get an extended payment plan, which is like unheard of. For access to this Mastermind. So you join us right now in November for two extra months, but you're really just paying for six months and you get to extend your payment plan by two extra months, which is great for cashflow. So if you are interested in this option and you wanna get first dibs on the bonuses for people who are joining then below I have the wait list. If you go to l yaelbendahan.com/waitlist you can hop on the mastermind wait list. It is super, super quick and it just gives me a chance to see where you're at and if the Mastermind is a good fit for you. And you get a little prize when you sign up for the wait list. I won't tell you what it is, but it's really good. This is the opportunity, right? When you're creating that front end offer, you use it to seed your premium offer and you can build that list of buyers. Now, when I sold my accelerator program, I did my six figure mom retreat. It was a one day event. It it sold, it basically walked through the three steps of my framework. It talked about like the four, like the four parts of a business a scalable business model for moms. And that sold, just when I did it in December, it sold, I believe$60,000 in sales. And then I did it again, the following in q, in Q1. And it made an additional I don't know, I think it was like$28,000 in sales. Just from that one opportunity, like just that, that one workshop. I am gonna be doing a case study. Of one of my clients' experiences based on my updated scale system framework. So that this is a new framework that I created recently based on the work I've been doing with my mastermind clients this year. And it is so good. And I'm gonna be sharing the case study of my client and her results through the lens of this framework. So when you do this is, this was a suggestion from my coach Megan. So thank you Megan. And the cool thing about this is. That it not just shows your framework, but it also just really shows. Exactly how this could manifest in your life or in the life of your ideal client. So this, personally, I'm really excited about it. It's going to be a paid workshop. It's really giving like all the details behind the scenes of exactly what my client did to have her results. And this was, she made quite a decent amount of money with a very tiny list. And I'm really excited about sharing this. So that is what I'm gonna be selling for kind of like November, end of November, and maybe a couple other little bundle offers, which will be really fun. The last thing is if you are like, I just don't have energy to build anything. I don't wanna build a funnel, I don't wanna make a new offer, I have no patience. Here is a way that you can not only make money you can do it really easily. You can, you do not need to create anything new and you also have an opportunity to seed. Your experience or to literally build a list of leads that you can then re re nurture and retarget for your premium offer. Do an affiliate roundup page. Curate your favorite tools, trainings, offers, products, whatever you use, whether you're, a business owner, a mom, a sleep coach. I don't even know. Whatever. I'm gonna say business owner and a mom because that's what I am. But let's say, your favorite tools, your favorite trainings offers, maybe Black Friday offers that other people are offering as well. Use affiliate links and offer your own bonus for anybody who buys. And this bonus can be something like a group session, a bonus of Oxford Day, some sort of behind the scenes session that you host in December. And that way you are still nurturing your audience and you're building your visibility. Even if you didn't make a product, you're still making money from the affiliate commissions and you still have an opportunity to. Do market research.'cause you get to see what questions people are asking. You get a chance to give people a taste of your work, whatever you choose to offer as the bonus. And you now have a whole list of people who are a really great, potentially would be a really great fit for your premium offer because they have worked with you in some small capacity, right? That group session, that bonus Voxer day, the behind the scenes. A little, one week mini mind, whatever you wanna do to create an experience that they can join. And so they, they can join it as almost like a bonus to anything they buy affiliate wise, which I love this idea. And honestly, if I didn't have something to sell this year, I probably would do this. This is a really great opportunity if you are in a very busy season and do not have time to create offers, whatever, all you need to do is curate and recommend. And do some sort of really cool affiliate roundup, sending things out now and email now saying, I'm just letting you know that people are gonna be selling this, whatever it is. And and you should get on their list. You should get on their own,'cause the very often people have an opportunity like, Hey, if you people click this affiliate link now before Black Friday. They can then be basically cookie in to into the link. And and then when they do sell on Black Friday, you don't have to be, you don't actually have to be promoting during Black Friday in order to make those commissions. So this is a great time to start. This is a great start. Now basically it create a roundup. It could be a Google Doc, it could be a very basic page. It could be just like, I don't even know, a Google. Spreadsheet it could be an Airtable an Airtable database. Whatever you'd like, just something that is really easy to put together. You grab your affiliate link, you grab your recommendations, and then again, you have your kind of overall bonus. For anyone who buys anything through your link gets this.
